Mardi Gras 2024

What Is Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is a festive event composed of lively parades, colorful costumes, and social gatherings. Its origin can be traced back to medieval Europe, celebrated by European Roman Catholics who have incorporated their pagan traditions that welcome spring into religious holidays upon the arrival of Christianity.

When is Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras begins one day before Lent marking the beginning of the 40 day long holy season of fasting, prayer, almsgiving, and introspection. In 2024, Mardi Gras celebrations will begin on Tuesday, February 13. However, the celebrations typically aren't a single-day event and usually observed between January and March.

What Do The Mardi Gras Colors Mean?

The colors of Mardi Gras – purple, green, and gold – hold significant meanings. Purple symbolizes justice, reflecting the fair and equitable dispensation of laws and judgment. Green represents faith, denoting belief and trust in a higher power or in the principles of the festival. Gold signifies power, indicating the strength and authority that governs societies. These colors were officially designated for the event in the late 19th century and have since become synonymous with the celebration.

What is Mardi Gras All About?

To celebrate Mardi Gras, you can participate in a range of activities that embody the spirit of this vibrant festival. Attend or organize a parade featuring colorful floats and costumes, or join street parties with live music and dancing. Dress up in the traditional colors of purple, green, and gold, and accessorize with beads and masks. You can also host a themed party, decorate your space with festive decorations, and enjoy the day with friends and family, embracing the lively and joyous atmosphere of Mardi Gras.

How To Host A Mardi Gras Themed Party

Step 1: Find Mardi Gras Themed Masks

Mardi Gras is famous for its masks. Grab Mardi Gras themed masks for your family and friends to channel the festive spirit. These  masks will help you Channel the 18th century royal masquerade look and set the theme for your event.

Step 2: Setup Your Table

This year, to make your party special, decorate your table with Mardi Gras themed dinnerware. To cut down on post-party cleanup, we recommend bedazzling your table with Mardi Gras themed plastic tableware to allow you to enjoy your party to the fullest without worrying with the hassle of setup and cleanup.

Emerald green plates matched with purple accessories would be a great addition to your table. Not only will you be wearing Mardi Gras masks, but you will also get to showcase your attention to detail by displaying these vibrant colors at your table.

Step 3: Pick The Right Tablecloth

The table cover will serve as a backdrop and create a great atmosphere channeling the Mardi Gras spirit. Opt for emerald green or purple disposable table covers that both reflect the colors of the festival. Not only are they an affordable option, but they are also incredibly easy to setup and cleanup. However, if you would like to go for a brighter backdrop for your plates, white plastic table covers will be a suitable option, allowing your carefully picked plates, cutlery, and accessories to shine and make a statement.
